Free "Quit Kits" Make It Easier for Smokers to Kick the Habit

Smoking Quit Kits

Available Friday, January 4, 2008, at Center on Halsted.

Smokers resolved to kick the tobacco habit in 2008 are getting free help from Chicago Second Wind, a coalition of public health, health advocates and health care providers.

Coalition members will provide 2,000 free “Quit Kits” at over a dozen sites across the city starting on Friday, January 4, until supplies last, including the Center on Halsted.

With a retail value of $50 each, the Quit Kits contain stop-smoking tips, telephone and website support information, sugar-free candy, and nicotine replacement samples donated by the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH).

“Quitting smoking is always smart but never easy,” stated CDPH Commissioner Terry Mason, M.D. “These kits are designed to provide a little encouragement—to let smokers know they’re not alone, and that a whole range of effective smoking cessation services and support are just a phone call or a mouse click away.”

The Quit Kits are available to smokers only; one kit per person.

In addition to distributing Quit Kits, Respiratory Health Association of Metropolitan Chicago is holding a free seven-week smoking cessation class starting Thursday, January 24. For more information or to register, call (312) 243-2000 or log onto www.lungchicago.org.
